Hi there! I'm Sebastian and I play the cello. I absolutely adore music and am equally passionate about sharing my love for it with others! I love to perform, teach, and even practise! Even though I am foremost a cellist, I also like to compose/arrange music and enjoy playing non-classical musical genres.
As a musician, I hope to use my musical skills to connect with those around me and hope to use music to spread joy & happiness.
Biography
Sebastian Spillane is an Australian/Dutch cellist based in Melbourne. He began his musical studies in 2010 and ever since picking up the cello, he has never once considered putting it back down.
Sebastian's early studies commenced with Helen Holt and continued until 2023 when he commenced his studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music/University of Melbourne. At Melbourne, Sebastian has studied with Richard Narrowly and Josephine Vains. Towards the end of his Bachelor degree, Sebastian developed a new passion for early music. In 2026, Sebastian will be completing his Honours degree on Baroque Cello under the guidance of Josephine Vains.
Alongside his studies, Sebastian works fervently and enthusiastically as a cello teacher. His various teaching roles, (between his private practice and roles at Kingswood College), incorporate individual lessons, group classes, and ensemble rehearsals.
Sebastian has collaborated with many composers to develop new works for the cello. He has also been fortunate to premier many new works in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. Sebastian greatly enjoys exploring and expanding the repertoire of the cello, and continues to use his artistic voice to express new musical ideas and concepts.
